Founded in 1956, the Greater Victoria Housing Society is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing affordable rental housing for low-to-moderate income families, seniors, working singles, and adults with disabilities who live independently.
We believe that safe and affordable housing is essential to a person’s well-being and a foundation for success in life. We imagine a community that is healthy, vibrant, economically and environmentally sustainable, and prosperous – a community where everyone feels at home, where everyone has a home.
Our Mission: The Greater Victoria Housing Society is dedicated to providing affordable rental housing in Greater Victoria.
Our Goals: To provide high quality, safe, affordable rental housing | To maintain our existing housing to the highest standard | To respond to the need for affordable housing by improving, growing and expanding to meet the housing needs we see in our region.
“When I first got in here, I was coming out of a truck…sleeping outside…and immediately I got my feet grounded. Immediately I had choices. Since then, I’ve been able to not only get off the street but get closer and closer to accomplishing some things. I’m now going to university, I’m taking Tai Chi, I’m doing yoga, guitar, doing a lot of things I actually couldn’t do do because I didn’t have a home. Now I have a base camp. I have a livable place.” ~ a resident of Sitkum Lodge
