The Greater Victoria Housing Society Annual General Meeting was held on April 26, 2023.
Members of the Board of Directors, staff, and community members enjoyed receiving an update on the operations of GVHS over the last year. Of particular note were the celebration of the official grand opening of Townley Place, the ground-breaking for 137 new affordable rental homes in Esquimalt, and receiving the Capital Region Commercial Building Awards Award of Excellence in the Affordable Housing Category.
GVHS currently has over 1,350 tenants living in 894 homes at 17 properties. Last year, 117 new households representing 156 people moved into our buildings. And, we have 137 units under construction (874 Fleming Street in Esquimalt) and an additional 412 units in planning stages.
Those in attendance also enjoyed keynote remarks from Jill Atkey, CEO of BC Non-Profit Housing Association, reflecting on the current housing crisis, and how non-profit organizations like GVHS are working together to solve it.
