Greater Victoria Housing Society Announces New Executive Director

Victoria, BC —  The Board of Directors of Greater Victoria Housing Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Virginia Holden as the Society’s new Executive Director, effective May 10, 2021.

Virginia has dedicated her career to building affordable and sustainable communities. She spent the past 15 years working for the BC provincial government in various leadership positions dedicated to affordable housing development and policy, community engagement, and land use planning. Recently, she established her own consulting practice to provide strategy and community engagement services to housing not for profit organizations.

Lisa Edwards, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Victoria Housing Society remarks, “The Board is excited to welcome Virginia as we celebrate our 65th anniversary and strive to achieve further success addressing housing needs in Greater Victoria with our new strategic plan.”

2021 marks Greater Victoria Housing Society’s 65th year of operations. It was founded in 1956 by a small group of people who had a vision of providing affordable housing for seniors. Starting with just 26 homes, GVHS now provides over 930 homes for members of our community, with plans to continue to grow. Virginia Holden Biography:

Virginia has dedicated her career to building affordable and sustainable communities. She spent the past 15 years working for the BC provincial government in various leadership positions dedicated to affordable housing development and policy, community engagement, and land use planning.  During that time, she played key roles in the development of three provincial housing strategies, including HousingMattersBC and Homes for BC: 30 Point Plan, as well as community homelessness and encampment responses.  Recently, she established her own consulting practice to provide strategy and community engagement services to housing not for profit organizations.

Virginia is a registered professional planner and holds certification with the International Association in Public Participation (IAP2). She is also a committed community volunteer having recently served as a member of the District of Oak Bay Advisory Planning Commission.

Hailing from Nova Scotia,  Virginia currently enjoys exploring the world and her community with her family and two school aged boys on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen speaking people in Victoria, BC.
